Research Institute or Lembaga Penelitian (Lemlit) is an academic executor which conducts primary task and function of University of Mataram (Unram) in research. It plays an important role in conducting and organizing research done by the lecturers under Lemlit and faculty coordination.
Unram Lemlit has experienced enough in managing research. Since the starting up in 1994, it was capable of managing research conducted by the lecturers both individually or in in group, and it also works together with another institution, Stake-holder (government, private sector, LSM, and even another university) both in country and abroad.
Despite it has shown its successful in managing researches, a lot of challenge have to be conquered in order to move forward. One of the biggest challenge is on how Lemlit is able to fulfill its role and realize both of its visions and the university’s; which is, “to become internationally competitive research university in 2025”.
Realizing on the duties carrying out, Lemlit believes that it is important to increase its care and awareness in envision the development issues faced, therefore this institute is able to give some valuable contributions in order to solve those issues.
Another challenge which Lemlit has to face is, how to make a conducive situation whereas fresh ideas and innovations are able to grow, so researchers will be familiar about new issues and problems. Besides, Lemlit is expected to grow a well organized and integrated research, which will produce high quality technology.
In order to realize the visions, missions, and purposes of Lemlit’s in particular, and Unram in general, while gives contributions in attempt to increasing competitiveness; thus, in RIP (Research Master Plan) year 2012-2016, has declared a leading research on “Sustainable small Islands Area Development”. Then it is converted into three fields of study, namely; Science and Technology; Agrocomplex; also Social and Humanity. The three clusters themselves cover 8 major fields of study, (1) Food Safety and Security; (2) New and Renewable Energy; (3) Poverty Allevation; (4) Human Development and Competitiveness; (5) Infrastructure, Transportation, andInformation Technology; (6) Climate Change and Biodiversity; (7) Health, Tropical Diseases, Nutrition, And Medicine; and (8) Disaster Mitigation and Management.
