One of Indonesian goals declared on Law (UUD) 1945 is to educate the nation’s life. Accordingly, the government created a system of national education organized on Law (UUD) number 20, years 2003. Education is conscious and deliberate effort to invent the atmosphere and process of learning in order to make students actively develop the auspicious of spiritual strength, personality, intelligence, noble character and skills required themselves, society and nation.

By the development of the learning expansion opportunity at the secondary level, public awareness of education importance and the success of compulsory learning program have been required the teaching staff for primary and secondary education level, both quantitatively and qualitatively. Such things seemingly impact the increasing the shortage of teaching staff in all Indonesian regions including West Nusa Tenggara.

FKIP currently owns 9 field of studies, namely: Education Study Program of (1) Biology, (2) Mathematics, (3) Physics, (4) Chemistry, (5) English Education, (6) Language and Indonesian Literature and Region. (7) Civics, (8) Primary School of Teacher Education (PGSD), and (9) Early Age Education (PAUD).

Biology Study Program

The goals of this study are: 1) to produce educator who masters the knowledge and technology of biology; 2) to be able to design and develop the biology’s curriculum; 3) to be able in designing and applying biology program competencies-based in high school, 4) to develop the relationship with the related institutions like School, Education Department, and many other related institutions to maintain the quality and job vacancy for the graduate.

The expected competencies of undergraduate students of FKIP Biology Study are: 1) having a good, professional and responsible personal integrity; 2) Mastering basic science in order to be able to thing logically, rationally in solving either school or public problem, mastering the basic of learning and evaluation to implement it at school, mastering the science and able to develop it and also implements it for supporting the professionalism.

Research. Biology Study Lecturers hae been doing many research such as Role of positively charged amino acids in the M2D, trans-membrane helix of Ktr/Trk/HKT type caption transporters,  Teacher Education Program for the 21th, Responses to Global Challenges, Mutation of His-157 in the second pore loop drastically reduces the activity of Synechocystis Ktr-type transporter, A Novel potassium channel in photosynthetic cyanobacteria

Mathematics Study Program

Mathematics Study Program was officially established based on the decree of Directorate General of Education No. 32/DIKTI/Kep/2001 on January 30, 2001 of which commenced on July 1997 based on the decree of Operational Licesed No. 4507/D/T/K-N/2010 dated November 19,  2010.

The graduates of Mathematics Education Department are expected to acquire competences as follows; (1) having good personal integrity, professional, and responsibility, (2) mastering the scientific basis in order to think logically and rationally in solving the various problems; (3) mastering the education basis and evaluation which able to apply in school; (4) acquiring the knowledge and able to develop and apply in supporting the professionalism.

Physic Study Program

Physics Study Program was officially established based on Institutional Development decree No.: 134/62 on November 3rd 1962.

The graduates of Physics Education study program is aimed to has these following competencies: 1) Having a good professional  and responsible personal integrity. 2) Mastering the basis of scientific to think logically and rationally to solve the school  or social problem. 3) Mastering the basis of teaching and evaluation to implement them at school. 4) Mastering science and able to develop and implement it to be professional..

Chemical Study Program

Chemical Study Program of MIPA FKIP University of Mataram was officially established on decree of Directorate General of Education No. 31/DIKTI/Kep/2001 on  January 31, 2001, and signed by Director General of DIKTI (Satryo Soemantri Brodjonegoro). It was commenced on July 1997 based on the decree of operational license No. 4502/D/T/K-N/2010 dated November 19th, 2010.

The primary competencies of Chemical Education Department are; (a) to uphold the norms, moral, religion, ethics, and professional responsibility; (b) to acquire educational insight; (c) to comprehend the characteristic of the students and to positively behave toward the students; (d) to be able to develop the students’ career; (e) to comprehend the theory and learning, assessment, and evaluation of chemical’s learning outcomes; (f) to be able to design and implement the chemical learning in theoretically or practically class in effectively, efficiently and conceptually; (g) to broadly and deeply mastering the chemical’s subjects; mastering of scientific basis in order to thinking logically and rationally in solving with various problems; (i) to be able to work as the teamwork and adapt with the development of IPTEK in field of chemical.

The field of educators’ expertise covers: Inorganic Chemical, Organic Chemical, Biochemical, Chemical, Analytic Chemical, Physics Chemical, Agriculture, Environmental Chemical, Fitofarmaka, and Microbiology.

English Study Program

English study program was officially established based on the decree of Ministry of Education and Culture  No. 326/D2.3/M/80 on December 31, 1980. It was commenced on June 1983 based on the decree of operational license No. 86/DIKTI/KEP/2007 dated April 2, 2007.

The primary competencies expected to the English department graduates are; (1) to build the personality as an educator; (2) to acquire steady and stable personality; (3) to behave and act accord with the norm; (4) to comply with the rules and regulations; (5) to show the discipline; (6) to behave and act in accordance with social norm, speak politely; (7) politely dressed and behave; (8) to be proud as an educator, prove the commitment on duty as an educator; …(cont’d)

Bahasa, Indonesian and Local Literature Study Program

Indonesian program of Language and art department in Faculty of Teacher Training and Education has been established based on decree of establishment, Number: 326/D. 2.3/M/80 December, 31st 1980.

Post graduate’s competencies of Language, Indonesian and Local Literature Program are (1) to create the qualify graduate especially as an educator which is able to apply the knowledge and appropriate/orientated technology to local needs; (2) to develop a partnership with several institutions such as schools and educational service, and other national or private institutions in order to anticipate the alternative job vacancy for the graduate; (3) to develop the scientific culture in order to make a conducive environment for all academician in supporting the Three Duties of the Higher Educational Institution (Tri Darma Perguruan Tinggi); (4) to develop the logical reasoning, interest and students’ hobby in order to achieve the graduate personality development.

Civic Education Program (PPKn)        

Civic Education Program of Social Department in Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, University of Mataram has been established based on the decree of Directorate General of Education Number: 232/DIKTI/Kep/ 1996 July, 11, 1996.

The graduate’s competency of Civic Education Program in Social Department is to become a professional, superior and competitive educator in the field of education and PIPS-PPKn learning and also to contribute in local society, national and global. Besides, the graduate also acquires the ethos of professional educator based on value, moral, and norm.

Teacher Training of Elementary School Program (PGSD)       

Teacher Training of Elementary School (PGSD) of Department of Education in Faculty of Teacher Training and Education Mataram University has been established based on Directorate General of Education decree Number: 86/DIKTI/Kep/2007 April, 2nd 2007. Education Mataram University is to create the alumni with academic competent and professional in accordance with SKGK SD/MI. Academically, alumni are expected: (1) to have the ability to know and develop the pupil deeply and widely about their development, attitude, building personality in which multi intelligence as prominent to self development from the beginning toward the objective; (2) to master the substance of Knowledge, the ability to organize the learning and students’ competence development in accordance with students’ condition and their environment included of Mathematics, Science, Social knowledge, Indonesian, and Civic, from concrete to abstract; (3) to acquire the knowledge and ability in conducting the educated learning based on the situation, the demand of child development and environment; (4) to acquire the ability to develop the professional competence continuously; (5) to have the ability to design, learning implement, and to evaluate the learning as a professional teacher.

Study Program of Early Age Education (PAUD)

The study program of PAUD (Early Age Education) in Education Department of FKIP Unram was established based on the decree of Dikti No: 2745/D/T/2007 on November 11, 2007 and the Founding Certificate was signed by the Head of Directorate General of Higher Education Satryo Soemantri Brojonegoro, on August 2008 with operating license No.: 2675/D/T/K-N/2010 June 28, 2010. The mastery of basic ability to become educator and manager of professional PAUD, must be based on the competence of “Upholding the norms, values, morals, religions, ethics and professional responsibility”. The competence is supported by being developed through the applying of study program curriculum, which are: (1) Capable of communicating effectively in oral and written; (2) Responsive to the educational development and the development of early children; (3) Capable of using and applying Information Technology and Communication for education development and early children development; (4) Capable of self-developing, thinking logically and analytically to solve problems professionally; (5) Capable of interacting with working environment individually or in team; (6) Capable of developing and making educative playing media to support the education; (7) Commitment, work ethos to profession and professional tasks.
