Milestone of Unram Faculty of Animal Husbandry
Based on the Decree of Mataram University Presidium No. SP/ 134/1c/1967, dated January 1, 1967, the Faculty of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine was established. Then, on November 14, 1967 the name of the faculty was changed to the Faculty of Animal Husbandry.
Until 1976, the Faculty of Animal Husbandry only provided education up to baccalaureate level. At that time, it had developed affiliation and cooperation with the Faculty of Animal Husbandary of GadjahMada University (UGM), Yogyakarta. The cooperation have been conducted by sending lecturers from UGM to help as adjunct lecturers in Mataram University, sending students from Mataram University to the Faculty of Animal Husbandary of GadjahMada University as lecturer cadres, post undergraduate upgrading program, and also cooperation in the field of research and community service. In 1977, the Faculty of Animal Husbandary implemented bachelor degreeprogram. In 1981, udergraduate program is started to be implemented.
Now, the Faculty of Animal Husbandry, University of Mataram, manages two (2) education programs namely: (1)Diploma III Program, in the field of interest Animal HusbandaryAgribusiness ,the concentration on Animal Health/Veterinery (2) Undergraduate Program, which was initially managing three study programs (Livestock Production, Livestock Processing Technologies, and Nutrition and Feed), but based on the Directorate of Higher Education Decree No. 163 / DIKTI / Kep / 2007, dated 29 November 2007, these three study programs were merged into a study program which is Animal Husbandry Program.
In 1968, the lecturing and practicum activities were conducted in the Senior High School of AgricultureMataram. In 1970, the Faculty of Animal Husbandry had its own lecturing buildings located in KarangJangkong, Cakra Negara. Meanwhile, the practicum activities were conducted in the Laboratory of the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Mataram. Finally, in the 1977 academic year, the faculty of animal husbandry had its ownlecturering and practicum buildings inMataram University area at Jl. Pendidikan No. 37 Mataram. In 1992, the Faculty occupied new buildings on Jl. Majapahit No. 62, Mataram.
Infrastructure and facilities equipped with Applied Laboratory (Teaching Farm) which are an area in the Lingsar village (5 hectare), an area in North Lombok with (5 ha), and some guided villages as places for conducting practicum and research activities. In addition, the process of learning and teaching in the Faculty of Animal Husbandry is supported by 12 (twelve) laboratories and other practicum places in cooperation with government institution (UPT. Banyumulek owned by Animal Husbandry Department of West Nusa Tenggara province) and livestock companies as the facilitator in the implementation of Professional Placement program and Thesis as the final project.
The Faculty of Animal Husbandry constantly works to improve the quality of scientific service. Currently, there are 84 lecturers consist of 3 functional expert assistants (3.57%), 21 Associate Professors (25.00%), 50 Associate Professor Heads (59.53%) and 10 Professors (12.50 %). Based on the education, 48 lecturers (60%) graduated from Master Degree and 32 people (40%) graduated from Doctoral Degree. In adiition, there are 9 lectures that are currently pursuing doctoral degree. Teaching staffs of the Faculty of Animal Husbandry have enhanced the knowledge and professionalism to various educational institutions renowned in both domestic (UI, UGM, IPB, Univ. Of Padjadjaran, etc. UB) and international levels (among others: the United States, Germany, Australia, Japan, Philippines, etc. -his).
Various cooperations in terms of research and the development have been done with various stakeholders, which are across sectors, departments and institutions, at both domestic and international levels, such as with National Development Planning Board, the Ministry of Agriculture, the Regional Government of East Kalimantan Province, LPIU-IAEUP and LPIU-PPSLPT, Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR), Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Timor Leste and others. Since 2007, the Faculty of Animal Husbandry has sent “detasering” lecturers to various Universities in Sumatra and East Indonesia.
